This is the official thread about Japanese Cuisine. I'm sure most of us, or at least some
of us have a fondness for Japanese cooking whether it's very well-known dishes such as sushi,
ramen, or tempura or more traditional foods such as natto, tamago kake gohan, or zaru soba.
Japanese cuisine is filled with different recipes and deliciousness! Feel free to talk about anything
related to Japan's food culture, share pictures, gifs, etc.

Can I just say...Japan makes the most interesting things. Not sure if some of you have seen this...Japan makes sugar candy that morphs into all kinds of shapes. One of them is Candy Sushi and it never ceases to blow my mind with how realistic the candy sushi looks. Who comes up with how some of this works?? Like holy crap. Look at how the tamago and the rice are made and how legit they look hnggggh

Japanese cuisine has always been my all time favorite for its quality taste and healthy. I've managed to taste many kinds of Japanese food during my time on studying abroad in Japan for three weeks.

I'll start off with all the sushi's I've tasted in a Sushi-go-round restaurant at Ehime prefecture.

Among those sushi, the crab tempura, salmon and tuna are my favorites.

These were in the past since I finished studying abroad in Japan two months ago.

My favorite sushi were the shrimp tempura, crab, and these fishes: salmon, snapper, and tuna.

Yeah, I'd love to dine in those sushi restaurant again since it's just fun looking at those sushi and deciding on what to choose. I spent like around $24 for having thirteen sushi plates.

I didn't have Suppon Nabe in Japan, but I did have Tori Nabe in a Nabe party.

I am at work atm but I just bought the Shokugeki (spelt wrong argh) manga and it has the recipe for Furkake Rice, so I will be making that this weekend. I will have to post it for everyone to try, I hope it really does transform hehe. The guy who wrote the manga actually studied all the culinary things that are in the show. Basically, everything we see are things that have been studied to bring the experience to life....so interesting :P

So I guess I will experience the joy of having so much pleasure from a food my clothes tear off :3

[size=80]Had the pleasure of going to a Robata Bar here in my home city. If you are
unfamiliar with what "Robata" means, (unfortunately, not food made by robots~) but "Robata"
is a short for "robatayaki (炉端焼き)" which means "fireside cooking." It's a style of cooking
where food is put onto skewers and slowly grilled over hot charcoal. Most commonly meat
and seafood are cooked robata style.

So with that...the restaurant I went to was called Sumi Robata Bar and is owned by a
Japanese-American chef and his wife, and cooks with another Japanese-American sous chef.

And this is the food I got to try out (with zodac too!):

Question

So, I am really wanting to try making sushi at home. Does anyone have a recommendation for the sushi roller? Are they all made equal, or is it one of those things that "you get what you pay for"?? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!

Oh wow this sushi looks so tasty... It's making me hungrier. Also when I made sushi at home, I didn't use a roller (couldn't find one at the stupid store). Still was very successful.
